Gas now a focal point for energy industry

Top gas producers doubled down on the prevailing industry view that the fuel will remain an indispensable long-term energy source at the World Gas Conference in Beijing in May,  emphasising that the lower-carbon fossil fuel will play a pivotal role in ensuring coal-dependent Asian economies can meet rising domestic power demand while decarbonising. Fast-growing gas markets in Asia-Pacific—where electricity consumption has increased by 3–4% every year since the start of this millennium—underline how regional developing economies increasingly view gas-fired power generation as a long-term solution for decarbonising and expanding their electricity supply, according to Petronas CEO Muhammad Tauf
