Ineos Grangemouth complex joins Acorn CCS project
Boost for Scottish Cluster as Grangemouth targets 1mn t/yr carbon capture by 2027
Ineos and its oil trading joint venture Petroineos have signed a memorandum of understanding to bring the Grangemouth refining and petrochemicals complex into the Acorn carbon capture and storage project in northeast Scotland. The initiative would cover Ineos’ entire Grangemouth site, one of the UK’s largest industrial complexes, and enable the capture and storage of approximately 1mn t/yr of CO2 by 2027, with the scope to capture further significant volumes beyond this date, according to UK-based Ineos. “We acknowledge that we are operating a carbon dioxide intensive industry and we have a significant role to play in helping Scotland reach its net carbon zero target by 2045” Gardner,
