SSE and Equinor plan gas power plant with CCS
Project in Scotland would have access to transport and storage infrastructure developed for the Acorn hydrogen project
The UK’s SSE Thermal and Norway’s Equinor are developing plans to build a 900MW gas-fired power plant with carbon capture and storage (CCS) at Peterhead on the east coast of Scotland. The plant could come online in 2026, making it one of the UK’s first power stations with CCS, although the project is in the development stage and FID will depend on the progress of the necessary business models and associated infrastructure, the firms say. “Ahead of the critical Cop 26 conference… there is a clear opportunity to demonstrate leadership on CCS” Wheeler, SSE Thermal The new station would have access to CO₂ transport and storage infrastructure being developed through the Acorn hydrogen p
