UK assesses projects for low-carbon clusters
Government names developments qualifying for evaluation for connection to East Coast, Hynet and reserve Scottish clusters
More than 40 individual carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen projects have qualified to potentially be connected to the UK’s East Coast, Hynet and Scottish low-carbon industrial clusters. The government has designated East Coast Cluster and Hynet as “track one” clusters, suitable for deployment in the mid-2020s, with the Scottish cluster announced as a reserve cluster in case a back-up project is needed. The list of qualifying projects (see Fig.1) includes eight power plants with CCS, eight hydrogen projects and 25 industrial carbon-capture projects. For the East Coast cluster, 25 projects will be evaluated, with 11 for Hynet and five for the Scottish cluster. FIG.1: PROJECTS QUALI
