EU needs ’extraordinary effort’ to meet CCS goals
Denmark and the Netherlands stand out as CCS champions but too many other member states have yet to recognise the importance of the technology, warns lobby group CCS Europe
Achieving the EU’s targets on CO₂ capture rates will require an “extraordinary increase in effort” and much more active support from policymakers at the member state level, according to lobby group CCS Europe. Many hundreds of capture plants must be built at industrial sites if the EU’s target of capturing 280mt/yr of CO₂ by 2040 is to be met, the group said in a new manifesto for the industry.
