Legislation provides finance for charging stations and transmission lines
The Biden administration’s $1.2tn bipartisan infrastructure bill will provide finance for the deployment of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations as well as the transmission lines required to power those stations effectively. Some $5bn will be available to help states build such stations along highways, while another $2.5bn will be invested in grid upgrades. The infrastructure bill smooths permitting and siting for new transmission lines at the federal level, creates a loan facility to help investors build new lines until demand arises and provides several billion dollars for smart grid capabilities such as software to help existing lines work better.
