BP and AWS tie-up shows value in transition partnerships–CeraWeek
BP supplies Amazon Web Services with renewable energy, with cloud services provided in the other direction
BP CEO Bernard Looney set out how the energy transition can be pushed forward by establishing large-scale partnerships with firms outside the energy sector, at CeraWeek yesterday. BP supplies Amazon Web Services (AWS) with renewable power to run its vast power-consuming data centres, while the US cloud provider supplies the data centre services needed to run the majority of the major’s operations. Both companies have committed to net-zero—BP by 2050 and AWS by 2040—and AWS will be run 100pc run on renewable energy by 2030.
