SSE buys Siemens Gamesa renewables portfolio
UK-based company secures foothold in southern Europe with $630mn deal
The UK’s SSE Renewables has expanded into southern Europe with a deal to buy a portfolio of wind and solar projects from Spain’s Siemens Gamesa for €580m ($630mn). The portfolio includes 3.9GW of onshore wind power projects across Spain, France, Italy and Greece, as well as scope to develop 1GW of solar projects. Many of the projects are at an early stage of development and will require significant further investment to complete. “The project portfolio brings some excellent assets and will provide a real springboard for our expansion plans in Europe across wind, solar, batteries and hydrogen," says Stephen Wheeler, managing director of SSE Renewables, the clean energy arm of UK-based utility
