As one of the world's leading suppliers of energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies, Siemens is a renowned innovator in automation, digitalisation and infrastructure solutions. This year the company has implemented a number of ambitious and industry-first projects.
In Slovenia, Siemens successfully designed and implemented the first commercially 3D-printed part in a nuclear power plant.
Integrated into the company's digital services, 3D printing allows replacement parts to be made where the original manufacturer no longer exists. Considering the extensive safety requirements this was a significant achievement.
This year, Siemens also offered digital and maintenance services to several power plants in Argentina and China. The firm agreed with Pampa Energia to provide long-term services for the Genelba and Genelba 2 power plants with a combined capacity of 825 825 megawatts−enough to power 83,000 homes. In China, Siemens agreed with China Resources Power Holding Company (CR Power) to digitally connect 19 coal-fired units which will have a total generating capacity of 9.6GW. Running on Siemens' MindSphere operating system, the project will help CR Power optimize operational efficiency and market response speed.
Siemens also announced partnerships with PAS Global and Tenable Inc which will help strengthen cybersecurity infrastructure for leading energy, utility and oil and gas companies. As risks from cybercrime, cyberattacks in particular, grow it is crucial companies have solutions to best secure and protect their most valued assets.
