Turmoil in oil markets and tumbling commodity prices may be the global energy sector’s dominant story at the moment. But it should not overshadow a worry that is at least as significant. Australia is truly about to come of age as a new gas superpower. Between now and 2018, seven new multi-train liquefaction facilities will start exporting gas to buyers in Asia-Pacific from strategic points along the Australian coastline – the outcome of more than $180bn in capital investment.
