Chinese policies hint at future gas plans

The 14th Five-Year Plan is underway, and the specific roadmap for gas is due later this year

China is in the second year of its 14th Five-Year Plan (FYP) period, which runs from 2021 to 2025, and policymakers are attempting to solve the so-called energy trilemma—striking a balance between security, affordability and sustainability—while also laying the groundwork for achieving China’s dual carbon targets. China is expected to increase gas burn and rein in coal consumption as part of efforts to meet its climate commitments, but it must balance that with energy security.
