China has updated its Gas Utilisation Policy for the first time in more than a decade to shape development of a domestic gas market that has doubled in size since the document was last released, with a new emphasis on ensuring energy security while refining pro-gas policies. China should promote the use of gas “in an orderly manner”, which will require more efficient utilisation and economical use while safeguarding energy security, the National Energy Administration said in the policy document, which will be in the consultation phase until the end of October.
