Hopes for help for UK refiners after report calls for action
The report recommends the government looks at regulations and taxes faced by refiners
A report by an all-party parliamentary committee calls for government action to secure the future for the UK refining industry. Long-term sustainability could be undermined by "the scale of legislative and regulatory burdens" on UK refiners, the report says. It calls for action to ensure that UK operators do not face more onerous regulations and taxes than refiners elsewhere, and are not disadvantaged compared with importers. The report, by the Energy and Climate Change committee, draws on evidence given by UK refiners, importers, storage operators, retailers and the UK Petroleum Industry Association (UKPIA).
