PeruPetro, the Peruvian hydrocarbon agency in charge of the promotion, subscription, and supervision of the exploration and exploitation activities in the country, subscribed with Anadarko Peru B.V., Sucursal Peruana in 2017, three license contracts for hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation in Blocks Z-61, Z-62 and Z-63.

As part of their commitments, Anadarko Peru B.V., Sucursal Peruana has to undertake a new 3D seismic acquisition project in the Peruvian offshore, covering more than 6,000km² of 3D data in the north-central part of the Trujillo Basin. This project was completed at the end of July and performed on the schedule previewed without affecting the fishing activities.

This is the first offshore acquisition program in the basin in the last ten years. It was acquired under a short-term Environmental Study called Environmental Impact Statement (or, in Spanish, Declaratoria de Impacto Ambiental – DIA).

For the latest project in the offshore, the company deployed techniques and high environmental standards that would allow it to move into the next period, once they confirm their geological models with the new data. The Trujillo Basin is one of the most prospective areas due to the amount of hydrocarbon evidences that have been identified through the different evaluations carried out in recent years.

Previous studies proved the presence of an active hydrocarbon system around the Trujillo and Salaverry Basins, and the proposal of new play concepts would allow the defining of a new prospective area.

This year, new opportunities in offshore hydrocarbon exploration are opening up, so Perupetro is promoting 47 areas for technical evaluation agreements or license contracts in different onshore and offshore basins.

Likewise, the bidding process for Blocks I and VI with mature onshore fields in the Talara Basin, started on 14 August. These blocks are in a production stage with an average production of 2,500 barrels per day (BPD) of light oil with an API° between 34 and 38, coming from reservoirs mainly dominated by a gas-in-solution drive mechanism. Blocks I and VI are onshore operations whose development began more than 100 years ago.

It is also scheduled to launch the Bidding Round for Block Z-69. This block has an average oil production of 4,500 barrels per day (API between 35 and 38) and 9 million cubic feet of gas per day, coming from reservoirs mainly dominated by gas-in-solution drive mechanism.

Furthermore, Perupetro has recently configured a new promotional Area named Area XCII located in Madre de Dios Basin, which contains approximately 3.14 TCF of natural gas and 44.02 MMSTB of LGN as contingent resources (2C) discovered in the Candamo Field, along with other potential structures with a volume of 6.70 TCF and 94.14 MMSTB as prospective resources (unrisked).

In this world of energy transition, Peru continues to take advantage of its oil and gas resources, contributing sustainably to the country's development and poverty reduction with the strong support of private investment.
