ExxonMobil investment goes ahead
FIRST CONTRACTS for a $1.7bn additional oil-recovery project offshore the eastern Niger delta were awarded by ExxonMobil last month. The company will inject natural gas from its former-Mobil oilfields to improve oil recovery and also to eliminate the routine flaring of gas, as required by the government by 2008. The East Area Additional Oil Recovery Project will increase oil production from the licence area by 110,000 barrels a day (b/d), up from 0.75m b/d of crude and other liquids. Ultimate recovery will increase by more than 0.5bn barrels, the firm estimates.
