Gibraltar puts us back on the map, says minister
THE NEW geological formation opened up by Ecopetrol's Gibraltar discovery puts Colombia back on the world oil map, says Luis Mejía, the energy minister. It said the Gibraltar-1 well could have opened up reserves of up to 200m barrels of oil. Some media reports since have cast doubts on the importance of the discovery. But Mejía has told Petroleum Economist that the success of Gibraltar-1 is clear ... all the indications are good. The most important thing, however, is that the discovery of a new formation with these sorts of prospects puts Colombia back on the world
