No-one was hurt when the Patterson 179 rig, near Watonga, caught fire on Monday evening
Continental Resources will allow a fire on a rig operating in the Anadarko Woodford Shale, Oklahoma, to continue as a managed burn, saying this is the safest option available. The company, which called in well-control specialist Wild Well Control to assist, said it may take several days for the rig fire, which broke out on Monday, to burn low enough for the damaged rig to be removed and the blaze to be extinguished.
