US Utica shale gas output growing fast
The Utica shale in east Ohio is becoming one of the fastest-growing natural gas production plays in the US
Total natural gas production in the Utica region, which includes the Utica and Point Pleasant formations, will increase from 115 million cubic feet per day (cf/d) in 2012 to around 1.3 billion cf/d in September 2014, according to figures from the US Energy Information Administration's (EIA) monthly Drilling Productivity Report. The EIA expects gas production from the Utica shale play to increase by 78 million cf in September, to reach 1.35 million cf/d. The play's oil output is also expected to increase, by 3000 b/d month-on-month, reaching 40,000 b/d in September. The Bakken, Eagle Ford, Haynesville, Marcellus, Niobrara, Permian and Utica shale plays accounted for 95% of total US domestic
