Falling gas prices could help India to reduce its reliance on coal, while it gradually roll outs 450GW of renewables by 2030
The increasing availability of LNG cargoes and import infrastructure is encouraging the Indian government to pivot from coal to gas as a baseload fuel, according to experts, as it transitions to a lower-carbon economy over the next few years. Qatargas this week delivered its first LNG cargo to India’s Ennore receiving terminal. India will commission a further terminal at Jaigarh in Maharashtra later this year, while working on a number of other policies to improve the share of gas in the energy mix.
