Equinor’s latest offshore wind power deal with New York state has been described as a momentous development for renewable energy production in the US
Equinor was selected by the state of New York to develop two large-scale offshore wind power facilities last week, the largest such deal by a US state. Empire Wind 2 will provide generation capacity of 1260MW, while Beacon Wind 1 will have a generation capacity of 1230MW. These are the second and third offshore wind projects agreed between Equinor and New York state. Equinor won the state’s first large-scale competitive offshore wind in 2019, the 816MW Empire Wind 1 facility. Equinor tells Transition Economist that the 3.3GW to be produced when all three offshore wind power facilities are in full production would be enough to power 1.8mn homes. It also confirms that Empire Wind 2 is schedule
