Gas price spike delivers trading volume record
Exchange Ice reports a slew of new highs as traders try to navigate unprecedented TTF price levels
More than 5.5mn TTF gas futures and options traded on the Ice exchange in September, surpassing January 2021’s previous record of slightly over 4mn by 37pc. TTF futures and options also hit a record for open interest of just shy of 3.4mn contracts on 23 September. This included record open interest of 2,006,914 in TTF futures, the latest in a number of new open interest peaks as it surpassed 2mn contracts for the first time. Options on the Ice exchange hit their highest open interest for 2021 so far, at 1.39mn contracts on 24 September. TTF open interest in TTF goes out as far as December 2028 inclusive.
