Gas use in India has seen significant growth over the past year and looks set to accelerate further, even if the government’s 2030 goal remains a stretch

India has aggressively stepped on the gas pedal during the last two financial years (FYs), with gas consumption jumping by more than 9% over the first 11 months of FY 2024–25 compared with same period in 2023–24. As such, the Indian government’s stated objective for gas to account for 15% of the primary energy mix by 2030 has an outside chance of being achieved.
