Eni announced a giant gas discovery offshore Indonesia on 20 April, building on a rapid push to develop its deepwater Kutei Basin portfolio after reaching FID on a pair of projects in March, just 18 months after regulators approved the plans. The Italian IOC announced it had made the Geliga 1 discovery in the Ganal block, around 70km offshore East Kalimantan, with preliminary estimates of around 5tcf of gas and 300m bl of condensate in place. The well was drilled to a depth of about 5,100 metres in roughly 2,000 metres of water and encountered a significant gas column in Miocene reservoirs with “excellent” properties. The find follows Eni’s two other key Kutei exploration successes in recen
