Namibian frontier continues to generate excitement
A range of factors appear to be in alignment for the southern African nation
Namibia has become the exploration hot spot of Africa, if not the world, over the last 6-8 months, says Siva Prasad, senior analyst at consultancy Rystad Energy, following the back-to-back successes of TotalEnergies’ Venus and Shell’s Graff discoveries. “Namibia is still considered underexplored in most of its blocks,” Prasad continues, and there are “increased reports of operators with plans to sink exploration wells in the next few months”. These include AIM-listed Eco Atlantic, which Rystad expects to drill its Osprey prospect in the next 12-15 months, as and when funding is secured.
