Mopane offers Namibia learning curve
IOCs are focused on the next wave of exploration activity in Namibia and are keen to learn from one another’s results
Galp’s planned farm-out of the Mopane complex in Namibia may not happen until late next year, as the Portuguese firm continues to carry out appraisal work on the offshore prospect. A number of IOCs have been linked to Galp’s intent to farm-down its 80% stake in the sizeable Mopane prospect. Galp CEO Filipe Silva recently told an earnings call that “we have had a number of discussions, and we do have a short list of super-credible parties that are keen on Namibia”. But he stressed that “this is not the time to tie up with anyone... not before we complete, at least, the next two of the four-well campaign that we have in mind”.
