The IEA has called on EU governments to fast-track the deployment of wind and solar capacity to help reduce reliance on Russian gas amid deepening concerns over security of supply and surging prices driven by the invasion of Ukraine. The IEA says a concerted policy effort aimed at tackling delays with the permitting of projects could deliver another 20TWh of renewables generation over the next year. Another 15TWh could come from faster deployment of rooftop solar, supported by a short-term grant programme that would cost about €3bn ($3.3bn), it says.
