Asian demand green lights US LNG

Chinese deals are driving boom in cargoes and LNG export capacity

The US LNG sector is enjoying a period of relative strength, with FIDs looming for several projects. And US exporter Cheniere Energy added to the positivity in late November by announcing that it had produced its first LNG from Train 6 at its Sabine Pass terminal in Louisiana, with substantial completion anticipated in the first quarter of 2022. Shortly afterwards, Cheniere revealed it had struck a 20-year deal to supply LNG to China’s Foran Energy Group. The SPA, covering 300,000t/yr to be delivered from 2023, is the fourth offtake deal struck by the US company since early October.
